Old School RuneScape is an alternate version of the venerable free-to-play MMORPG recreating the experience of playing circa 2007, something at least 1 million players want in their lives. Unlike RuneScape, World of Warcraft doesn’t offer official legacy versions of the MMO. The reason I say that is because any massively multiplayer game that has pretty much ever existed and has ever done any expansions has always gotten the nostalgia of, “Oh God, wouldn’t it be great if we could have classic servers!” and more than anything else that generally proves to be nostalgia.

In most cases – in almost all cases – the way it ends up playing out is that the game wasn’t as good back then as people remember it being and then when those servers become available, they go play there for a little bit and quickly remember that it wasn’t quite as good as what they remembered in their minds and they don’t play there anymore and you set up all these servers and you dedicated all this hardware to it and it really doesn’t get much use. Jagex Games Studio, creators of the fantasy MMORPG RuneScape, have confirmed today a wealth of new content launching throughout 2016 to celebrate the game’s 15th anniversary.

Andrew and Paul Gower — the founders of RuneScape back in 2001 — are returning as guest designers for a “Gower Quest” due for release in spring 2016. A new game client technology that will take RuneScape’s visuals to a new level of fidelity will also be introduced, together with four quests that conclude the epic rs gold for sale God Wars storyline that started in 2013. A new skill – Invention — will be introduced to the game, allowing players to personalize weapons and armor, and make them more technically advanced. Instead, players take to hosting their own game servers that allow players to return to the game they might have originally played with, before its various expansions launched.

More “RuneScape” content will be released over the next 12 months. Announcements about the 15th anniversary celebrations are expected to come in the following weeks and months. Playing he retro version doesn’t mean you miss out on enw experiences, though.
